The death of Ethan a Guilford High student found shot to death in a Seaside Avenue home on Wednesday brought sorrow, but it also brought unity. Hundreds of people, dozens holding lit candles, stood on the green Friday night in degree temperatures that, with a wind chill, felt like a mere degrees.

An autopsy Thursday did not immediately point to a cause of death, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said.

Ethan spent a lot of weekends in my home, said Scott Markovich, parent of one of Ethans closest friends and one of several people who organized the vigil. I got to know this young man very, very well.

Under an American flag flying at halfstaff in Ethans memory, more than a halfdozen of his friends told stories about a comical boy who outsmarted them in games of strategy, made boring French class fun and voiced his opinion even when it was the minority.

Ethan was described as one of towns best lacrosse players, a Star Wars n who said the actors lines out loud while watching the movies and a great chess player, who carefully plotted his every move.

We know its a long road, he said. We have been overwhelmed. It is as dark an hour for us as it could be.

Markovich recounted a running joke he had with Ethan, which included mocking a song title from one of Mike Songs albums.

Police have released few details about the circumstances of Ethans death.
